RESPONSIBLE FASHION

Univers Retail supports omnichannel consultant's participation in citizen consultation

Driven by my personal values and the issues identified at the level of our customers in the fashion sector, I took the initiative of participating in the national consultation " How can we act together for more responsible fashion?"

This consultation initiated by Paris Good Fashion (a collective supported by Galeries Lafayette, Groupe Etam, Paris Mode, Vestiaire Collective, La Redoute and others) took place online from September 03 to October 25, 2020 on Make.org.

The principle is to allow every citizen to submit proposals that will be voted on and then implemented. More than 107,000 participants have expressed their support for the actions of professionals and consumers in favor of more responsible fashion.

Univers Retail was very supportive of my participation, and as such I submitted a dozen proposals that garnered a total of no less than 2,361 votes and 422 "coups de coeur"!

Looking at the results, I can already say that the themes that received the most votes were local production and the choice of eco-friendly materials, ethical criteria in the choice of suppliers, and the need for greater transparency with regard to increasingly committed consumers.

Indeed, CSR is at the heart of the reinvention of business models in the fashion industry:

  • eco-friendly production from upstream to downstream,
  • partners involved throughout the production-to-sales chain,
  • sustainability throughout the product life cycle,
  • recycling,
  • reuse,
  • circular economy.

Consumers are ready for it, and some brands such as Jacadi, Petit Bâteau and Cyrillus have understood this.

Being sustainable, and showing it, means building customer loyalty and recruiting new ones, as well as grasping a fundamental trend in the transformation of French consumer habits.

While the second-hand market exists and is growing by an average of 13% a year, driven by citizens who consume differently, 8 out of 10 French people are ready to consume responsibly and pay more for it.

The business models of companies in the fashion sector must therefore be reinvented around the logic of CSR.

Vinted is a flagrant example of this, with 400,000 items sold every day on this platform, so let's not wait any longer and move towards these new virtuous business models that will guarantee sustainable growth while respecting the environment.

It's no longer a fad, no pun intended, but a fundamental trend favored by today's consumers and set to gain momentum tomorrow.
