To keep abreast of the latest technological advances, a team from Univers Retail immersed itself in the fascinating world of Big Data & AI Paris 2024. This 13th edition of the show, held on October 15 and 16 at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, offered a unique opportunity to explore emerging trends, innovative solutions and concrete applications of artificial intelligence and Big Data.

Inspiring demo sessions: AI at the service of retail

The show's rich and varied program, with over 230 exhibitors and 350 conferences and workshops, enabled our experts to focus on targeted "demo" sessions. These 30-minute presentations, led by specialists in the field, highlighted practical cases of the use of AI and Big Data in the retail sector. Among the topics covered, managing product data at scale, leveraging internal knowledge with generative AI, and the large-scale application of AI at Les Mousquetaires particularly caught our attention.

The importance of preparation and support

A key point raised during the various presentations was the crucial importance of preparation upstream and downstream of AI implementation. Assessing data maturity, identifying the people who will be impacted, establishing a Data/IA diagnostic and supporting employees in managing change are all key steps in guaranteeing the success of an AI project.

Putting people at the heart of transformation

The show also highlighted the importance of the human aspect in digital transformation. AI should not be perceived as a threat, but as a tool to serve employees. In particular, Grace Mehrabe, co-founder of Outmind, highlighted the importance of starting from employees' frustrations to identify relevant use cases for AI and turn it into a tailor-made tool.
